Claire California started with a suitcase that would not close.

Claire had packed for a week — a wedding in Santa Barbara, two days of meetings, dinner outside every night — and could not find a single outfit that did more than one of those things. Everything she owned was for one occasion and one temperature. Nothing traveled.

Our Story

We are named for California because that is where we started, and because it taught us the lesson the whole brand is built on: a day is not one temperature. You leave the house at seven in a jacket and you are carrying it by ten.

Then we started shipping. To Phoenix in July, where what matters is whether a fabric breathes. To Chicago in February, where a coat has to genuinely work. To Atlanta in August, to Denver in spring, to Seattle in more or less any month at all. The lesson held everywhere. Women all over the country were solving the same problem with the same overstuffed closet — a shelf of things that each do exactly one job.

So Claire California is a California name and an American wardrobe. Pieces that layer without bulk, hold their color in strong light, and are comfortable enough for a long day while still being considered enough for a good evening. Nothing that only works once.
